On Tuesday, Sandy Springs elementary,
middle, and high school students
participated in "The Robotics
Generation" interactive exhibit at
North Springs Charter High School.
Younger students drove robots
designed by high school students,
programmed NXT robots using Lego
Mindstorm software, and experienced what
it was like to perform robotic surgery
using the da Vinci surgical
robot.
Ison Springs students Brian
Orubele,
10, and Zandria Washington, 11, students
said they had a blast. “I love
science!” Washington added.
Evan Rosenthal, a North Springs
sophomore in the math/science magnet
found that using the da Vinci
robot was easy to operate.
“It was unreal, I didn’t think
technology could be put together to do
something like this,” she said.
Senior Megan Eisenberg, another
math/science magnet student was
fascinated by the special glove she wore
that uses a Mobile Music Touch system to
transmit impulses to the hand. “It’s
to hopefully help a person learn to play
the piano and gain better use of their
hands following a spinal cord injury.
The technology is amazing,” Eisenberg
said.
The exhibit was
presented by the Sandy
Springs Education Force and Northside
Hospital in partnership with Fulton
County Schools and Georgia FIRST.
“Our goal in partnership with
Fulton County Schools is to expand the
educational horizons of our students and
get them excited about a future in which
STEM skills will play such a vital part
“said SSEF executive director, Irene
Schweiger. “Events like this make this
happen."
On Oct. 4, the exhibit moves to
Riverwood High School with a Sandy
Springs Family Night planned from 6-8pm.
