Spalding SoccerAfter School Homework/Sports:
Spalding Drive Charter Elementary School

Sandy Springs Education Force is working with the principal of Spalding Drive Charter to bring an after school program to the school. Research has shown that there is a direct correlation in participation in extra-curricular activities and improved student achievement. Students are motivated to participate in an after school academic program that incorporates a sports component.Spalding Lacrosse

The goals of the program are to provide academic enrichment for students to improve their reading skills, to encourage participation in team sports and foster a sense of teamwork. The program consists of academic tutoring and enrichment for the first hour targeted to improve the reading scores on the CRCT. During the second hour, the students will be taught basic soccer and lacrosse skills. The administrators at the school will identify 34 students who would most benefit to participate in this program. The program will be conducted one day per week from 3:00 to 5:00 for 20 weeks over the course of the school year.

Sandy Springs Education Force is providing financial assistance to the program which will be free of charge to the students. In addition, SSEF is providing administrative support to identify community coaches for the sports component of the program
