Sandy
Springs is a modern city, a melting pot that is truly
a slice of American life. This city has some of
the wealthiest homes and some of the most challenged
families, many of them first generation Americans and
single parents struggling to make ends meet. Our city
offers a diverse opportunity for education as well,
with many Sandy Springs families choosing our
excellent public school system, while a very large
percentage of families opt for a variety of private
schools or home-school their children.
Sandy
Springs is home to affluence and poverty and
everything in between. For our community to thrive
in the 21st century, all of our children need to gain
the skills they need to be successful, productive
citizens, and SSEF has a plan to assist in this
effort. Our community needs to work together to help
close the gap for our youth.

The
diversity that makes our city so rich can also be a
pitfall for the children of our community. A key
"tool to success" in today's world is
education to better prepare youth for life's
challenges and opportunities. As an adult, life's
choices are often limited by what students have
learned in their formative years and the decisions
they have already made. Many youth throughout our
country are exposed to bad choices in these formative
years and have little or no exposure to a wider array
of positive opportunities.
SSEF
is the umbrella under which organizations, businesses
and other services can come together to help influence
positive choices during these formative school years.
Helping to engage students in the learning process and
exposing them to positive influences can open doors
for their future and serve as building blocks for a
strong foundation for our community.
Sandy
Springs is blessed with the ability and resources to
work together to help support a solution for success
for all of our children. We have significant
"pockets of opportunities" that need to be
addressed; but, we also have the "affluence"
and the ability in our city that can be a wonderful
resource to become part of the solution. There is a
lot that we can do in Sandy Springs so that our youth
can begin to see that there are alternatives to gangs,
crime, drugs, teenage pregnancy and other negative
issues that plague the youth of today. The impact of
such an effort can be sizeable and long term benefit
for our new city. SSEF has a vision that:
"All
youth in Sandy Springs will graduate from high school
with a clear understanding of their options and
potential for a meaningful and productive life."
We
believe now is the time to mobilize our community to
support our children and help lay a pathway for a
successful future - for the children and our city.
