Jason Foster Wins SSEF Graphic Design Competition

North Springs Charter High School (NSCHS) senior, Jason Foster has won top honors in Sandy Springs Education Force’s STE(A)M Graphic Design Competition.  Foster’s winning logo and poster design, selected from a field of 13 graphic design submissions from NSCHS students, will be featured in upcoming publicity for SSEF’s STE(A)M Showcase, to be held  at North Springs Charter High School on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

According to competition judge Alison Scheel, Creative Director and Owner of Yellobee Studio in Sandy Springs, Foster’s presentation was “clean, creative and unique, with great use of space and color. His design will help build a recognizable brand for SSEF’s STE(A)M Showcase. Jason won over a very tough field of competitors – all of the designs showed great talent and imagination.” After graduating from NSCHS this spring Foster intends to continue studying graphic design in college and plans to pursue a career in the field.

Woodland Elementary Receives SSEF STEM Grant
Each year, SSEF provides the opportunity for our 11 schools to apply for a STEM Grant. One of the 9 recipients this year was Woodland Elementary who received a STEM Grant for LEGO® Education WeDo. This program is an early robotics club for 1st and 2nd graders that enables students to learn, construct and then bring their Lego models to life while learning about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  According to Angela Ergle, Woodland STEM Coordinator, “Because of this grant, our school has been able to provide a free, quality, after school experience to over 150 Title 1 students, whose families have limited incomes that keep them from having the same experiences as other children. This program has helped to instill a growth mindset in our students so that they can begin to travel on a positive path into their academic future. ”
