Sandy Springs Education Force creates and funds targeted programs that educate, inspire and prepare public school students in Sandy Springs for a competitive world. For example: after-school STEAM clubs, After-School All-Stars, Link With a Leader, Mini Libraries, SAIL, After-School North Springs, the SSEF Virtual Tutoring Program, the SSEF Summer Book Club and much more. This is our 11th Annual STEAM Showcase.

We are so excited to showcase 34 exhibits within the STEAM arena via this virtual exhibit hall. In this version of the STEAM Showcase designed for ongoing use, we are sharing:

re:imagine/ATL trains, equips and inspires Generation Z (ages 11 – 24) to build careers in the creative and digital media industries. Learn about careers in the film industry (like storyboard artists, sound engineers for movies and more). We’ll also share tips for securing internships and other opportunities to fast-track your career. Kennesaw State University College of Computing and Software Engineering offers nationally recognized degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering and Computer Game Design and Development. The College of Computing and Software Engineering makes a positive impact on the lives of others through computing education, research, industry engagement and community outreach. View a brief orientation video that introduces the four majors in KSU’s College of Computing and Software Engineering. Georgia Film Academy is a collaboration of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia created by state leadership to meet education and workforce needs for high-demand careers in Georgia’s film and creative industries. Students will learn about the pathways to the film, television and digital entertainment industries and the options they have to pursue them.

Cooper Carry is a creative collective that connects people to place.  Our design professionals provide the expertise to articulate the built environment. Our creative collective includes architects, interior designers, landscape architects, environmental graphic designers, urban planners, as well as branding, sustainability, rehabilitation and adaptive re-use experts. In this session we will share our day-to-day activities as designers. We will discuss the differences for each design discipline (architect, interior designers, landscape architects, environmental graphic designers, urban planners, branding). SCAD: The University for Creative Careers is a private, nonprofit, accredited university, offering more than 100 academic degree programs in Atlanta and Savannah, GA. Students will learn about STEAM career opportunities, see examples of student work and hear about the academic majors offered at SCAD. Radiance Solar. A solar EPC company. We build commercial, institutional and utility scale projects with involvement from conception to commissioning. Students will learn what solar is and isn’t and about solar careers and the skills needed.

Fulton County Public Works provides drinking water to citizens in North Fulton and wastewater services throughout the county to protect public health and the environment. Learn about some of the careers available in the water and wastewater industry and the technologies used by water professionals. Gwinnett Technical College offers 140+ programs in high-demand industries, such as healthcare, business, engineering, automotive, information technology, gaming and more. Students will learn about Gwinnett Tech’s certificate, diploma and degree programs that teach real-world job skills for successful careers. Ethan Ray Designs. Learn about special effects makeup, including the science aspect of it (anatomy, color design, chemistry) from an 18-year old professional who is already working professionally on movies.

Women In Technology (WIT) empowers girls and women to excel in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) from the classroom to the boardroom. Our exhibit showcases the WIT Mission and tells the story of our organization through a former WIT Girls Member and Girl of the Year Scholarship winner. Wacom is the world leader in interactive digital pen displays, tablets and styli for artists, designers, educators and business. Learn how teachers and students can use Wacom devices to take notes, collaborate and create unique digital content in and out of the classroom. Pendulum-Productions produces and develops content, music and sound design for film, television, animation, trailers and digital media. Learn about the process and opportunities within the music, film and television production industries along with college and certificate programs available for students.

West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA) is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life within the West Atlanta Watershed by protecting, preserving and restoring our community’s natural resources. This segment will feature Black Americans who took unlikely career pathways in the environmental field. Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast. Watch for an inside view into the everyday work process of an architectural designer. We will cover design, digital programs, construction documentation and more! The Ray Highway is a living laboratory on 18 miles of I-85 that is dedicated to testing technologies and ideas that make driving safer, smarter and more sustainable. Students will learn about technologies along The Ray, such as solar roadways, self-driving technologies, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, vegetative labs and more.

Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is Atlanta’s longest-serving hospital, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880. Four sisters, with just 50 cents between them, opened the Atlanta Hospital — the city’s first after the Civil War. What started in a small house on Baker Street is now a 32-acre campus in north Atlanta. It was renamed Saint Joseph’s Hospital in the 1970s. Our mission is the same today as it was over 130 years ago — to provide compassionate care, especially to those in need. The students will get an insight into the world of infection prevention and how it helps the community on an everyday basis as well as during the current pandemic. Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is Atlanta’s longest-serving hospital, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1880.  Today, the 410-bed, acute-care facility is recognized as one of the top specialty-referral hospitals in the Southeast. Emory Saint Joseph’s is a leader among all Georgia hospitals and is part of the Emory Healthcare system. This exhibit will highlight Emory Saint Joseph’s Robotics surgery capacity. Northside Hospital health care system is one of Georgia’s leading health care providers with five acute-care hospitals in Atlanta, Canton, Cumming, Duluth and Lawrenceville and more than 250 outpatient locations across the state. Northside Hospital leads the U.S. in newborn deliveries and is among the state’s top providers of cancer care, sports medicine, cardiovascular and surgical services. Howard Middle School to include new additions and renovations to the existing school using Building Information Modeling (BIM). SSOE | Stevens & Wilkinson is a nationally ranked project delivery firm for architecture, engineering, interior design, and construction management. Our target markets include healthcare, commercial, education, government, industrial and manufacturing. This engineering exhibit includes a presentation of software used for lighting calculations and structural modeling for Emory University’s Oxford Student Center.

NFHS. NFHS Network is the leader in streaming live and on-demand high school sports, covering regular season, postseason and other activities and celebrating the accomplishments of student-athletes, broadcasters and high schools across the country. Learn how high schools use our automated sports production technology to create professional-level broadcasts with NO people required. [email protected] is a Georgia Tech K12 outreach program. Its mission is to inspire, engage and impact Georgia educators and students by providing access to experts in STEM fields. Students will learn about lasers, laser rangefinding and LIDAR – a technology used for mapping, environmental monitoring and possibly as a sensor on self-driving cars. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger serves as the state’s Chief Elections Officer and his office also oversees Professional Licensing, Corporate Filings and Securities and Charities. Students will see the process on how to vote using the new Ballot Marking Devices from start to finish – from check in at the precinct to scanning their ballot..
