Woodland Elementary Robotics Club

02/21/2024 by Miriam Salpeter Leave a Comment

Where can you hear students talking about LEGO Spike, Vex, and Makey Makey kits? This is common conversation at Woodland Elementary’s Robotics Club, a program that Sandy Springs Education Force supports via our STEAM Legacy Grants.

Under the leadership of teachers Ms. Quanda Foster and Ms. Alexandra Sackellares, fourth and fifth graders in this club learn how to bring these kits to life via coding. They then apply the skills they learn to real-world situations and use knowledge of LEGO robotics, Vex, and Makey Makey to enhance their educational careers. Ultimately, students use LEGO and Vex Go kits to learn problem-solving, teamwork and computer skills that will help build a robotics pipeline from elementary to middle school.

Fourth-grade students enjoy having fun building, problem solving and being creative with their friends in this impactful club. In addition, parents are highly supportive and are anticipating enjoying a parent preview day. Students love the club so much that one student asked, “Can I come in during my recess time tomorrow to code?” Students agree that “coding is cool!”

Sandy Springs Education Force appreciates STEAM Showcase sponsors, as their contributions make this and other STEAM clubs possible.
